Boise is Ada County's hub, and the county seat, which means it's also the biggest, most varied city on our list. Junk removal jobs here can be anything — an early-1900s bungalow in the North End, a brick rancher on the Bench, or a newer place out in West Boise, Southeast Boise, or the Barber Valley area.
That mix of housing stock changes the job more than people expect. Older homes near downtown tend to have narrow stairs, alleys instead of driveways, and basements you have to carry things up out of. Newer subdivisions make it easier to back a trailer in close to the house, but the garages out there aren't any emptier.

Where Your Junk Actually Ends Up in Boise
Most of what comes out of a Boise cleanout ends up at the Ada County Landfill, in the foothills off Seamans Gulch Road. Locals just call it Seamans Gulch, or Hidden Hollow. It takes household trash, construction debris, yard waste, scrap metal, and clean unpainted wood, plus tires and old refrigerators for a fee. It won't take anything hauled in from outside Ada County, hazardous waste, or painted and treated wood mixed in with the clean pile.
If you're only getting rid of a few big items, the city's Curb It program, run through Republic Services, covers a handful of free bulky pickups a year — couches, mattresses, fridges with the Freon removed, right from the curb. Bigger jobs are a different story. Tearing out a shed, deck, or any real structure in Boise requires a demolition permit through the city, with a plan for where the debris and recyclables go.
And skip the burn pile. Open burning is banned inside Boise city limits except for small recreational fires, burn barrels aren't allowed anywhere in town, and burning gets shut off completely on bad air days.

Does the City of Boise haul away bulky items for free?+
Yes — the city's Curb It program through Republic Services covers a handful of free bulky pickups a year for things like couches, mattresses, and appliances with the Freon removed. You schedule it with Republic and set the item at the curb.
Do I need a permit to tear out a shed or deck in Boise?+
Real demolition work in the city needs a permit through Boise's Planning & Development Services, along with a plan for where the debris and recyclables end up. If you're not sure your job counts, it's worth a call to the city before you start.
